Four and a half miles negotiating 30 fences including the famous Bechers Brook, Valentines and The Chair.

A true test of both horse and jockey, but with up to 40 runners lining up you need a large slice of luck in running to cross the line first.

Everyone loves a bet on "The National", and the country will come to a halt to watch the race on national TV.
