The worlds greatest steeplechase - the Grand NationalThe worlds most famous steeplechase, run in April at Aintree racecourse near Liverpool. Four and a half miles negotiating 30 fences including the famous Bechers Brook, Valentines and The Chair. A true test of both horse and jockey, but with up to 40 runners lining up you need a large slice of luck in running to cross the line first. Everyone loves a bet on "The National", and the country will come to a halt to watch the race on national TV. Many people will have "bought" a horse in their office sweepstakes and will be glued to their televisions for the 9 minutes it usually takes to complete.
